Patrick Cantlay No Longer Has a Hat Sponsor

It was recently confirmed that Goldman Sachs decided not to renew their contract with former FedEx Cup golf champion Patrick Cantlay. Cantlay was an ambassador for the brand for four years and helped make Goldman Sachs more well-known among online consumers. However, they have now decided to go for a different marketing strategy.

Patrick Cantaly’s Expired Contract

The reason for the brand’s decision has nothing to do with Patrick Cantlay himself. They are simply not going to put their logo on hats anymore. However, Cantlay will still be involved in different campaigns and events of Goldman Sachs. The golf player is also in close contact with one of the brand’s board members, Mark Flaherty. He also happens to be a part of the PGA Tour’s board. Patrick Cantlay was recently reappointed as Player Director on the PGA Tour’s policy board.

Fans still don’t know whether Cantlay will find a new cap sponsor or will simply say goodbye to hats for a while, just like at the Ryder Cup.

Player Compensation Feud

Cantlay’s decision to go hat-free at the Ryder Cup sparked some rumors. A report implied that the player not wearing his USA uniform hat was, in fact, in protest against the lack of player compensation in the cup. Fans mocked Cantlay by waving their hats as he was walking down the fairways in Rome. Later, a hat celebration by Joe LaCava, Cantlay’s caddie, started a feud with European competitor Rory McIlroy.

Patrick Cantlay was quick to deny the rumors. He said that the US team hats just didn’t fit him, but the controversy was still highly discussed even after his explanation. Meanwhile, fans were happy to see Patrick play in Tiger Woods’s event, the Hero World Challenge. However, he later withdrew from the tournament to focus on his future gold activities in 2024.
