Anthony Davis Doesn’t Want to Play Center, Making Lakers’ Christian Wood Addition Tricky

No matter how you look at it, the LA Lakers had a very productive summer. They added valuable players to the team like Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince and kept restricted free agent Austin Reeves. The cherry on top comes in the form of Christian Wood, another free agent they’ll have joining the team. However, Anthony Davis might just cause a bit of a problem.

The Benefits of Having Christian Wood

Christian Wood, the other big talent joining the team, has undeniable skills. He is very smooth as an offensive player with a better shot than 75% within three feet of the basket.

He’s also been documented as lethal in pick-and-pop scenarios, seeing statistics from playing with Dallas in the last season. However, he weighs 214 pounds and his height is 6’9″, which means he is in no way a stout defender.

What Does it All Mean for the Team?

The main conclusion from seeing his statistics from the Dallas team thus far would be that Wood shouldn’t be spending too much time as a defender.

The Lakers manager shouldn’t consider it a possibility, at least not when he has Anthony Davis who’s been clocked as Defensive Player of the Year and would be far more impactful in that particular position!

Other Factors to Consider

Davis always faces a risk of injury and he has said that he’d prefer to play power forward because it takes less of a toll on his body. As a reference, he played his last campaign at 100% center, and that could be another explanation for him wanting a change. And while he struggles to play from the perimeter, he is fantastic at taking shots from the inside.

So, the question remains how the Lakers are going to handle the needs and wants of one of their superstars and manage Christian Wood, whom they have recently acquired. The team managers have a lot to consider going forward when it comes to making a decision that will win them the greatest number of games!
